The 2008 Constitution establishes social security as a right. This article reviews the attempts to privatize social security in Ecuador since the 1990s. A documentary review of laws, proposed laws, interviews, and other documents is used. A parallelism is found between what was

promoted in those years and what is currently happening, both in speeches, proposals, and actors.
