Abstract

This reflective article is the result of the research stay that the principal investigator was able to carry out in the Music Arts Department at the Central University of Ecuador. The text argues for the need to recognize the oral knowledge transmitted from the daily lives of families in the Cundinamarca and Boyacá regions in the learning processes of traditional rural music, with special emphasis on carranguera music. Three fundamental elements are identified: the link with family tradition, which is revealed as a form of socialization through music; the identity of “flavor” as a characteristic of musical interpretation; and the defense of the connection to the territory as a call to cultural sovereignty
