Abstract
This research work is a musical analysis of Gerardo Guevara’s piano work entitled Tres Preludios, as a
contribution to the understanding the works of Ecuadorian composers from musical analysis, revealing
the musical features of his compositional style.
Guevara composed his Three Preludes for piano (Recitative, Albazo, San Juanito) in Paris in 1963
and premiered at UNESCO headquarters in 1964; which exhibit an evolved thought from the rhythmic
cells of the Ecuadorian genres, expands the pentaphony as a generating element of harmony, texture
and melody; In addition to supporting it with the quarterly harmony and limited transposition modes.
It uses the primitivism of the rhythm of the Ecuadorian genres, which evolves, expands and hides
them, resulting in a language that we could call it “Guevarian language”.
The methodology used is qualitative, narrative, in addition to the use of observation as a technique
applied in musical analysis.
