https://revistasdivulgacion.uce.edu.ec/index.php/edosonia/article/view/578

This article presents the research-creation process behind the work Homenaje a Gerardo Guevara, a piano piece that pays tribute to the Ecuadorian composer Gerardo Guevara (1930-2024). The text combines the author’s creative experience with a formal, melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic analysis grounded in Ecuadorian genres and avant-garde exploration. By adopting a methodology that integrates compositional practice with systematic reflection, the article describes how the employed resources—pentatonic scale, quartal harmony, and metric patterns from Ecuadorian genres such as danzante, yaraví, albazo, and yumbo—merge into a coherent musical discourse. This study contributes to the understanding of Ecuadorian academic music and illustrates the relevance of research-creation as a means to understand, preserve, and update a cultural legacy.
Alex Alarcón

https://revistasdivulgacion.uce.edu.ec/index.php/edosonia/article/view/580

This study analyzes in a pioneering way the manuscripts of the unpublished opera El Centurión by Luis H. Salgado to determine its compositional chronology and its possible relationships with its historical context, and clarify the revision of the dramaturgical macrostructure after made by the composer completing the composition. The investigation of these heritage materials takes as a reference previous analyses carried out by the author of this article and his experiences in the execution of the composer’s music theater work. The character of this study is heuristic, since it produces some relevant questions: does Salgado’s work respond to features of his historical context? What structural plan does the composer have at the beginning of the process and how does he review it? This research generates orientations for the poetics of the staging desingn of the work, which constitutes a historical debt of the country’s culture since 1997, the year in which the documents entered public funds.
Javier Andrade

https://revistasdivulgacion.uce.edu.ec/index.php/edosonia/article/view/591

Since the colonial times, Ecuadorian artisans have modified the European guitar to satisfy the needs of local musicians, in Ecuador, especially in the Cayambe canton these adaptations have led to the creation of the Cayambeña guitar and the galindo tunings.
The value of Galindo tunings outside of Cayambe has increased significantly, boosting the creation of new guitar designs that allow to implement tunings professionally, this is possible thanks to the collaboration of musicians and local luthiers, like Carlos Giraldo. This evolution allows that Galindo’s tunings promote musical innovation, being used in new solo compositions and adaptations to other Ecuadorian genres.
The objective of this article is to determine the changes that have occurred in the guitar and to know the construction of the guitar created for the development of Galindo’s tunings in the professional field. The responses show important changes, particularly in the headstock and the stringing, since the aim is to have 9 strings. Considering the results obtained, it is advisable to continue investigating the different tunings and guitars created to preserve Cayambean culture.
Saray Armas, et al.
